Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular

ATTENTION EVERYBODY THIS POST IS V. IMPORTANT OK

okay

today I attended the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre on behalf of the lovely Selina as my birthday present. Doctor Who has this preconception amongst most people as a totally weird, old, fuddy duddy British geeky sci-fi show.

It is completely all those things.

Nah I kid, but anyway I absolutely love it. It is the best. I take complete shameless childlike joy and pleasure in watching it and obviously was incredibly excited for tonight. The basic synopsis is: a 2000 year old alien with two hearts flies around the universe in a blue police phone box which has the ability to take him anywhere in time and space.
It's not weird at all.

also the soundtrack is kind of amazeballs which is why there was an entire orchestra playing a show tonight
ya imma stop blabbin' now

walking through to the Plenary
there were tons of people dressed up in cosplay and semi-cosplay and whatnot
also: check out this dalek
feat. me

yea Selina mayyyyy have been just slightly weirded out
that's okay because as my belated b'day gift this day is 100% about me and 0% about you
(I kid again, srsly thanks Selinr)

this was how the orchestra was set up inside
I dig the Tardis just chillin' in the back

I didn't record that much cos ya I wanted to just pay attention to the orchestra
although I did record the first performance, and lucky I did cos it also happened to be the one most worth recording, there were choreographed monsters and full costumes and err'thang
like, Selina made me get up and swap seats with her halfway through because the monsters scared her
I don't reckon they're scary at all

I Am the Doctor
it's sort of like the unofficial theme of the show
swapping seats later turned out to be great, because I could simply leave the camera recording on the outside armrest of the chair
also I had a better view I guess

ALSO I was surprised to find out that Peter Davidson, who played the Doctor in like, the 80s was the host of the event?? like wow

pretty impressive costuming on the night, I was very impressed
if you are easily scared by people in costumes I would not examine these next images too carefully
(I'm mainly putting this warning here for you Judith haha)

like check that ish outtt
here's another performance that I recorded from the night, it's from when one of the companions leaves

The Final Chapter of Amelia Pond
I love the strings in this one and also the New York kind of swanky vibe
yea obviously I am great at describing things

ALSO DALEKS

these next ones are just a little creepy

at one point there was a Judoon (read: intergalactic rhino police) walking about and right next to me, the poor fella trips on the stairs and
falls over right next to me
it was hilarious

I just sat there and laughed and didn't really help him/her up
sorry
I'm a terrible human being

and then it was all over far too soon
alas
well, it was amazing while it lasted
definitely going to go to the next one

the final bow

outside, there was a bunch of Chinese New Year shenanigans going on

this is the programme I bought spontaneously, I wanted to have a memento
good thing too, it had the setlist and a poster but I'm super picky with posters so it's not hanging up on my wall I ripped out something else from the booklet oop too bad

we had a bit of a poke around the booths

and grabbed this takoyaki
I've never had superbly excellent Japanese-person approved takoyaki so I can't tell what's good, all takoyaki tastes good to me

Year of the Horse

this was the bowtie I got for today
grainy selfies

ended up inside Crown eating Chinese takeout, it was great

I actually had bought suspenders for today, but I coudn't figure out how they worked before heading off to the concert
like, it was crazy hot and I didn't want to be late so I was like screw that shit
but I figured it out when I got home

finished the night in the am sitting outside looking at the stars while listening to the soundtrack on my iPod
not a bad way to end the night

my bowtie collection is slowly growing
