today Selina dragged me along to see Ben Howard at the Palais Theatre I've listened to a few of his songs but I'm not like a hardcore fan but I came along cos I thought it would be a nice, chill night listening to some nice acoustic music this was an incorrect estimate as it turned out but more on that later HAHA
so Selina was running a little late so I grabbed some quick bites
so we got inside and we weren't really that late at all I feel like with concerts you can kind of be blasé with what time you show up because the acts never actually go on stage until way later the inside of the Palais was pretty neat though, kind of like an opera theatre
ya some pictures of us, we were still waiting haha
the opening act was Nick Mulvey, another British musician he was actually really good, he probably could've toured as headliner himself dug his stuff
then Ben Howard came on and it was a whole angsty lightshow ! haha Selina's favourite songs of his are probably the more delicate arrangements so the thrashing guitars kind of took us by surprise NOT saying it was bad it was just more like 'wait what is happening' it felt like we were at a rock concert haha he did play some more mellow tunes like Conrad though which was cool I can understand though, you probably get tired of playing the same stuff day in day out on tours and need to play some new stuff
this gif was from when he was playing Conrad that was actually really chill and cool so that was Ben Howard I actually didn't really take that many photos or record today here's Conrad which you should give a listen to and I promise it has at least 0% super loud thrashing guitars
today Judie & I headed off to the Finders Keepers Indie Market I was late as per usual why do people even bother with me tbh I felt bad but Judie said she had fun exploring Bourke St while she was waiting for me, which made me feel slightly less guilty haha the market was being held inside the Royal Exhibition building, which was pretty neat I don't think I've ever been in there before
it looks pretty nice inside, ya? I looked around a few stalls with Judie but my first priority was FOOD because I had not yet eaten and I was famished
cat card: party hardcore! the market was a lot of hand-crafted and other kind of quirky stuff like, Pinterest mom heaven come to life
yea there were a lot of rich white people haha like bougie as heck, I mean check out this gourmet ketchup and shit not to like snub my nose or anything actually we tried it and it was pretty good, but a bunch of stuff was pretty pricey man defs not student friendly
I left Judie to wander about and went outside to line up at the food trucks I chose this gumbo kitchen because I was feeling like trying some Southern food N'awlins and Louisiana and stuff but maaan the wait for these trucks was just insane, I reckon I spent a good hour just standing around waiting to order and then another indeterminate period of time waiting to grab my food but the food truck people were great, not their fault
I got some Po Boy Sliders + fries, with catfish and squid they were very good, great breakfast
she's beauty she's grace she's Miss United States
while I was waiting for food, Judie found these cute little macaron stud/earrings that she liked excuse the picturesque lettuce tho haha that's my bad then after I finished eating, Judie took me on a tour of the best stalls since she'd already had time to wander around there was some cool stuff !
I bought this little organiser, I actually got some decent use out of it can't say that I really did get shit done tho I mean I'm literally bloggin this more than a year later
Judie & I both really liked this intricate carved wood stamps, but like everything else they were wayyy out of our price range so we couldn't justify the splurge in the end
this vintage area that I really liked
also got to play around on the typewriters I was too afraid to really do anything though cos I had no idea how to use em and I thought I might break it accidentally or something that's not even a joke, it's like a real possibility with me
some live music playing
the inside of Royal Exhibition Building
there was a pretty good variety of stuff I'd say, and there was a surprising amount of baby stuff and also a surprising amount of babies and children like who let that happen ?
anyways we headed out once we'd pretty much seen everything it was raining a little as we left
Judie wanted to go to a Korean place on Hardware Lane to try some kimchi fries I suddenly got a blood nose out of nowhere, which was mildly distressing there was a little bookshop on the way so we took a detour inside to look around and for me to sort out my nose situation
the bookstore ended up being pretty cool too, had some cheap books
KOBA Korean Street Food
I ended up getting a Cairo Jim book which I used to read all the time when I was a kid also got a badge, because the guy behind the counter was like "do you want a $2 badge with that purchase" and I'm the worst at saying no, and since my purchase was only like $1 it made me feel even more bad so I replied "uh yea sure ok"
Judie's kimchi fries
I got the garlic and soy chicken
after our lunch we passed by this sign that said Cafe Giraffe and Judie suggested we go inside, which was the greatest idea it was freezing and rainy today, so stepping inside was like stepping into another world or something it was super chill and there was a large space at the back where people were just studying or relaxing, the place had an awesome vibe honestly it was like a breath of fresh air
we sat at this little corner booth near the back we both ordered hot chocolate and also ordered ice cream haha
I got white chocolate and Judie got mint I think
it was the perfect way to end the day, relaxing in a cosy little cafe I feel like today we got to explore a lot of Melbourne's little nooks and crannies, which was fun
I think this place will be good to remember for the future if I'm ever in the city and need a break from the outside world til next blo g
