the expedition

it was my friend selina's birthday, and so my other friend judith had the most brilliant idea of us all sending out individual letters and cards to arrive over the course of the days leading up to and on her birthday. i think sending letters is really cool; although horribly inconvenient, what with the advent of the technological era and whatnot. however, sending a letter is somewhat more personal and provokes further contemplation as compared to say, a simple text; as you must plan ahead what you want to write. i'm sure you all know this already, don't mind me, i'm simply babbling.
it kind of makes me wonder if pen pals still exist. i personally never had one, as a child i was pretty much off with the fairies in my own world, but after watching mary & max i really wonder what it would be like to have a pen pal.
if you haven't watched mary & max, go watch it! it's a claymation done by an aussie studio, and the story is half-based in mt waverley so that's pretty freaking awesome.
by the way, if you're wondering why i'm only typing in lowercase, i'm trying to be spontaneous. it's not really working, so far the only thing i've accomplished is really hurting my fingers and probably damaging my eyes trying to type this up.

this is the card i made for selina.

this design was pretty spontaneous too. i say 'spontaneous', but what i really mean is 'done 3 days after i was supposed to have sent it'.
as a consequence of completing the card ridiculously late, i decided to hand deliver it straight to her house to make up for my chronic inability to do anything punctually.

...total mistake.

but we'll get to that later.

earlier that day i was at uni running off some errands.
how cool is that alien poster??? it reminds me of those cheesy 1950s sci-fi B movies.
found this cat sleeping in a secondhand book store. at least, i think it was sleeping. dunno.

headed to chaddy to print off photos at harvey norman. i printed off some photos from the florence concert and stuffed them into the envelope too, as some kind of deluded compensation for being a week late with this letter.
...did i say a week late?
i was a week late.

i love the feeling of sending letters, it's damn cool.

can someone please explain to me the appeal of igloo zoo? i've had it a zillion times already and nothing about it justifies the $10 price tag for me.
except when other people pay, but.
it was getting late around now. people who live in melbourne will know that it's been getting ridiculously dark ridiculously early. and to top it off, on this particular day, the weather was decidedly atrocious.
don't you just love it when the myki's out of order?

haha, i thought that face in the bottom photo looked awfully like a cactuar.
i imagined that the story of me trekking to selina's house in the rain would be more interesting, since i was feeling pretty miserable at the time, but upon reflection it's actually not that interesting.
i'm going to tell you anyway.
so i got out of the bus to walk to selina's house. by this point it was raining so hard that streams of water were flowing down the road, and the wind was at the point where it kept flipping my umbrella inside out. so even though i took out my umbrella, my jeans were getting soaked through, and my shoes felt like the equivalent of soggy cardboard tissue boxes.
i still somehow make it to her house in the dark, with the rain pouring down so hard that it was difficult to read street signs when i was standing directly underneath them. don't ask me how that works. maybe it's just my eyesight.
okay, i may be exaggerating just a little.
but it was literally this dark outside. and this was only about 5:30 pm! like, whaaat?

i'm definitely complaining way too much in this post.
here's a good thing though!
picked up a tripod while i was at harvey norman waiting for the photos to print.

preeeetty sweeet. i was torn between this and a joby gorilla tripod, but i decided on this since it's way taller.
was also super pumped to get my lacie usb key in the mail the other day.

IT'S A USB. AND IT'S A KEY. HOW AWESOME IS THAT???

there are a lot of errors in this post, but i am way too tired to care anymore. also i broke my anti-uppercase rule right at the very end. but it's justified since the awesomeness cannot be contained.

May, in pictures

When starting a blog post, I always get stuck on the title. Each and every time. I guess the fickle side of my personality is to blame.
As I sit with my fingers frozen, poised over the keyboard, multiple ideas for a possible title flick through my mind - only to be shot down immediately after, their brief existence as painful as my indecision, as I try to summarise the many different events contained in one particular blog post into a single, short phrase.
Finally after much ransacking of my brain and endless, unnecessary deliberation, I give up and settle for a thoughtless, uninspiring and ultimately dull title which was probably the first thing that popped into my head when I began writing.
This is especially evident in a post like this where a lot of stuff happens but none of which is eventful enough in itself to fill a whole post by itself.
"May, in pictures?? What kind of a name is that?" thinks Edward to himself.

Aaaand, cut.
Wow, that particular rambling was long and awkward. You can go ahead and file that one under first world problems.
Back to the pictures. Why am I showing you pictures of uneaten food and dirty tables?
It was my Mum's birthday, and as such we took her out to lunch. Not much happened really, it was just lunch. Oh except I got to try fried ice cream for the first time. I don't really know what I expected, it literally is just ice cream that is fried.

The moon looked pretty damn cool in May. Oh yeah, this month apparently was the month of the supposed "super moon". It didn't look all that different to me, but then again I am visually impaired (I have to wear glasses constantly) so don't take my word for it. I tried to take pictures of it, however, not having a tripod at this point in time, they turned out shaky and unusable...oh well, only 13 months until the next one.

A familiar feeling came upon me as I desperately tried to finish my animation for Design Studio, as the third and final brief consisted of creating an animation based on your haiku. Above is a test run of my character running.
And of course, me being me, I left this project till the very last minute, and then attempted to finish everything within the space of a week when I had been given 4 weeks.

I don't think I did too badly.

I hate it when YouTubers say "watch in HD". I'LL WATCH IT HOWEVER I WANT.
But seriously, watch in HD.
Believe it or not, I did that in Windows Movie Maker. Yeah, it was hell.
Other than the many, many frustrations associated with not having a usable video editor, it was actually really fun making it. Animation is fun. I was looking forward to this brief all Semester.
Even the drawing each individual person by hand part.

My process is pretty shoddy and hobo-ish, but it's the end result that counts, right?
Yeah well, to end this post on a negative note - somebody ran over the water meter in our front garden, then drove away without bothering to tell us. It was an enjoyable few hours waiting in the dark for a repairman to come fix it. And then a few more enjoyable hours waiting in the dark while he fixed it.
Have you ever wondered what it's like to turn on every tap in the entire house and have not a single drop of water come out at all?
At first it's extremely interesting. Then it starts to get quite annoying.

Don't watch the video, it's rubbish. I don't even know why I recorded it.
Some people upload inspirational videos or educational videos to YouTube. Videos that are of use to the world and hold a large amount of value.
I upload videos of water spraying out of pipes.

Post soon. I'm going backwards in time.
