My half-assed attempt to fold an origami bee.
My theme for the brief was Japan, so I came up with the idea of using origami + Japanese colours
The brief was so vague, nobody is our class knew what we were doing? We were supposed to make the letters T, Y, P & E based around a theme. Our tutor reprimanded some people for directly creating letters e.g. out of clay or branches, but then went and reprimanded other people for using letters they found in the environment e.g. signage.
It was so confusing and frustrating, especially since it was our first brief of the year.
My last attempt at a hornet/bee, by this stage I had a multitude of failures (bee corpses I like to call them) lying around on my table. I didn't bother to take a photo on my actual camera, so you can have this crappy Instagram one instead.
I had to fold a lot of origami.
Like tons.
My first letter T was based around the ocean since Japan is an island and consumes quite a lot of seafood.
My second letter Y was based around modern cities of Japan.
First time I set this up, I accidentally exhaled too loudly and blew them all down.
Wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry, since it was 2am and I was so exhausted.
Had to stack these freaking towers one by one...
Sorry these photos are all squares, the brief required a square-shaped image so I thought it would just be easier to take it 1x1 format on my camera to speed up the editing process.
Blowing them all down (after getting a photo this time) sure was satisfying.
Sorry about that crappy GIF, my room has pretty bad lighting...I need a new light
Third concept was flowers..and birds? I think I tried to pass off this concept as Ikebana or something but to be honest I was super tired at this stage and just wanted to make simple origami haha.
E had some traditional origami patterns, and also boats because these were quick and easy to fold.
My final TYPE.
I submitted it at 5:35am exactly. My tutor totally called me out the next day, he was like, "Nice to see some of you worked hard and submitted it early. Compared to others who obviously left theirs to the last minute, I think the latest submission I had was at 5am!"
I may have complained a lot in this post but I was pretty happy with my outcome, and my tutor liked it in the end too so all's good.
