Happy Chinese New Year

It's the Year of the Dragon or something.
Since it was Chinese New Year, on Sunday my mum thought it would be a good idea check out the festival in Springvale in 35° heat.

I was hoping I could eat a lot of festival food, but it was kinda on the expensive side...$5 for a small skewer of meat? Those Dippin' Dots cost 5 bucks as well, I only bought them because it was so hot.

My mum bought this Vietnamese bread roll thing, it's called bánh mì and it's delicious.
I didn't get to eat it though, as my dad picked me up to go over to Gran's for their CNY celebration.
I love Chinese New Year.

yay money.

Well, this blog entry's a bit short so have some things.

The ninja lady is from a dream I had. It doesn't look anything like what she looked like in my dream. Or maybe it does. I don't remember her face, it's a bit of a fuzz.
Hey look I made a GIF!

Hahaha.

A hesitant foray into KPOP

Hello there!

This awesome pen was a present from my friend Joey who got back from Hong Kong recently. ITS EYES BULGE WHEN YOU SQUEEZE IT. I'm relatively sure I spent roughly 15 minutes laughing loudly to myself in public and not caring at all.

It was also her birthday so Judith and I sat around brainstorming ideas for a card.
You can see the awesome front cover on Judith's blog - BRILLIANT idea on her behalf!
It was also Judith's idea to make a comic for her, where our group of friends were all, hypothetically, KPOP stars.

I am not a fan of KPOP.

So Judith, being the good friend that she is, took it upon herself to introduce me to the many wonders of the Korean pop world. It was a wholesome experience it was traumatising.

So anyway, the comic was pretty enjoyable to make, I suppose poking fun at your friends (subtly, or in some cases not so much so) is always going to be fun. I didn't take anything of the completed comic, but Judith did. Have some random snapshots y'all.

 I made a mistake, oops.

Haha, anyway.
Another friend came back from Indonesia and I got these awesome little bookmarks.

Guess what, 2 for the price of 1.

How convenient. I actually bought a book the other day and was in dire need of a bookmark!

Is it just me, or does anybody else hate those weird glossy covers they put on books? They feel kind of tacky and unwieldy to me, I always end up taking them off. The gold embossing on the actual cover is so much nicer.
Stephen King is one of my favourite authors, I fall in love with suspense novels.

The other gift I received was an interesting shadow puppet. It comes with a story!

I love things like this. I don't know how to explain it, but it feels like I'm holding some part of Indonesia's cultural heritage in my hand. Does that make any sense? Kind of?

I'm off to do some reading now.

The end of an era

What a ridiculously exaggerated title. How disproportionate.

So here's how my last week or so of 2011 went:

THURSDAY 22ND DECEMBER
Since it was my birthday my mum took me out to Springy for lunch.

PHO.
The serving size was really large. I probably couldn't have finished all of it by myself.
And guess what?? There was a deer at Springvale. A REAL LIVE DEER.

This was the first time I've seen a deer in real life, it was totally freaking awesome.
I didn't get to touch it since there were so many people waiting in line to have their photo taken with the deer.

Then later on I went and got ready for my birthday party.
I hadn't been given many details about it other than the location, time and that I had to dress up as something?
I'm glad though, it was really awesome what my friends put together for me.
You can see their hard work and toil herehereherehere or maybe here.

Wait nevermind, that last one's a picture of a duck.

Anyways, I also got some freaking awesome presents.
Is it bad to say I have a favourite present?
Well I do and this is it:

IT'S AN AWESOME BRASS TELESCOPE.
I have no idea how they managed to procure one but it's awesome.
By the way it's not like I'm a perv or anything. Actually I like using it to look at stars. They kind of look the same, just bigger.

This is some awesome Typo stuff from Vi :D

I should explain this one.
I frequently have quite bizarre and/or disturbing dreams, so I've taken up the habit of writing down details as soon as I wake up in a little book that I keep next to my bed to make sure I don't forget anything important or interesting about my dreams.
So my awesome friend Kat got my a green journal :D
This is my old one. It is black.

I often have dreams about zombie apocalypses.
People say that certain objects or themes in dreams symbolise specific things.
I'm pretty sure that in my dreams the zombies symbolise zombies.

I got these 3 shirts as well...I won't show you what the bottom two say since it's fairly inappropriate.
But here's the top one:

This was from Selina, who also made these awesome decorations:

And she gave me this but technically it's not a gift.

It's in MAY??? WHAT. I'm worried.

And lastly, thank you Caf for this brilliant card book. Book card. Thing.
I spent ages sitting by myself laughing while I mixed up my dear friend's faces.
I think this one is somewhat reminiscent of Michael Jackson.

After a hilarious night, I went home and looked at stars.

FRIDAY 23RD DECEMBER
I woke up and ate macarons for breakfast.

I'm relatively sure this was the most exciting thing I did on that particular Friday.

SUNDAY 25TH DECEMBER
I had Christmas dinner with my dad's side of the family.
It was crazy, all my relatives were talking about uni and crap and it was so bad.
I'M NOT AN ASIAN.
I don't want to do medicine.
Time seemed to pass incredibly slowly, I'd only been there 2 hours and it felt like it was time to go home already.
I drank my first beer. It tasted really bad, and my dad made me finish the whole thing.
He gave me the eyebrows.
I have no pictures of the day, so have a picture of my cat.

나비 (butterfly) is really old. Like, ancient.

MONDAY 26TH DECEMBER
I went Boxing Day shopping...in a way?
I arrived at Westfield with my cousin, his friend and my brother at like 2:30 so we didn't do much shopping. Anything good would have probably been gone by then anyway so we mostly sat around, ate and played Monopoly Deal.
What do I think of Monopoly Deal, you say.
It's ok.
It's kind of a draggy game, it feels slow when you're not winning, but at least I won twice out of four games. BOO YEAH BABY.

TUESDAY 27TH DECEMBER
Dinner with family friends which was even more awkward then Christmas dinner as this time I was forced to stay at the table whilst everyone I knew interrogated my about what I wanted to do with my future.
Then one of the family friends' kids saved us by asking my brother and I if we wanted to go use the Playstation.
WE SAID YES.
By the way Street Fighter is the least intuitive fighting game I've ever played.
I couldn't even mash buttons, it was so confusing. My fighter like did not respond at all to my button mashing.
HOW DO YOU HADOUKEN.

SATURDAY 31ST DECEMBER
New Year's Eve!
I think our gang was planning to do something but we didn't organise it quickly enough, so only a few people ended up going.
I was one of those people and it was really awesome. We made our own fireworks and shit :D it was epic.
There were so many stars out though, I'm really sad I didn't bring my telescope.

So yeah, that's about all that's been happening. Whew, pretty long post eh.
Happy New Year to y'all, I hope your 2012 is awesome.
For me, it's the first time that it really feels like I'm entering a different year.
I actually made a resolution:
Don't be so lazy.
Which isn't really that hard to fulfill since my current state of complacency is so low it would be difficult to be even lazier.

I don't know how to end this post. Here's a picture of a Lego Dalek I made when I was a kid.

Oh, there's another picture. I guess I really like Daleks.
